Bicycle City Expo2019(2)

Bicycle City Expo 2019

We’re back at Bicycle City Expo, 2019 (2)

First day of Bicycle City Expo 2019, and we’re off to a clear and sunny start this year, too.
It is not yet a well-known event but soon after opening the hall is full of visitors.
This Expo is more focused on infrastructure and facilities than other bicycle events and the STROKE Cargo Trike was a genuine stand-out.

Little by little people are catching on to the STROKE project through social media and its presence at various events and some of our visitors told us they came to the Expo specifically to see T4.0! We cannot put on a big display like major manufacturers but it is good to know that our story is spreading through these small connections. Cargo bikes are only just starting to emerge in Japan but the increase in interest compared to last year is palpable.

Every morning the sheer number of people just hanging out around Tokyo Dome is a bit of a mystery.  (The Dome itself is a baseball stadium, home of the Tokyo Yomiuri Giants. The Expo is held in Prism Hall, part of the surrounding amusement district, Tokyo Dome City.)

Starting from T4.0, we are using the “Active Cargo Trike” tagline: a companion for leisure, work and daily life.

T4.0 exhibited together with T3.7… it took some time but we have reached a total of two trikes!

Envision’s president was helping with introducing the trike. In Japanese.

The embedded video was an eye-catcher!

This time we displayed it as a trekking vehicle. Camping gear can be neatly organized in the centre of the frame.

The surround-frame is pierced in places by these mysterious-looking holes, our proposal for a modular cargo system.

Four pannier-bags – two each side – and twin drinking bottle cages… if necessary it would be no problem to add as many as four spare batteries!

The pannier-bag base folds out and transforms into an upper sub-carrier or table.
With the base-plate removed it doubles
with the lower carrier to hold long items carried vertically.

By folding out just one side, the left and right sides can have separate functions simultaneously. We will be experimenting with more attachments in the future.

The amount of interest in the belt-drive was a surprise; its merits outweigh the disadvantage of needing a splittable rear fork.

A clean and simple appearance with belt-drive and internal hub gears.

The same basic front suspension as T3.7 after a strict diet.
A lot more development is on the cards but we can already see what needs doing.

We couldn’t offer test drives at the Expo but we will hold test-drive and communication events in the future, and look forward to meeting as many people as possible. The uses of cargo bike are limited only by our imaginations and have the potential for a strong impact on society and people’s lifestyles, not to mention being a fun way to get around!
